Our construction project for the week was out in Lucindia Mantilla, a neighborhood on the edge of Matagalpa. This community is the same one that I teach classes in each week. We had the opportunity to put a kitchen on the outside of the house of two of my students. This family has three girls, one of their sons, and their mother. In the past we have also put a new roof on the house. We also were able to bring new mattresses for each of their beds. They were each sleeping on a cot on top of the metal springs with only a sheet between them and the metal. At one point, due to lack of a ladder, Craig had to climb on top of Pablo’s shoulders to hammer in the next part of the structure. Oh, the little things that we take for granted.
